May Board Brief

The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held on 5/13/14 at 6:00 p.m. at the La Junta Rifle Club.  In old business the Board discussed the on-going improvements being made under the Colorado Division of Wildlife to improve four areas of the club: 1- the concrete patio and walk ways around the clubhouse, 2- the outdoor pistol range which is being outfitted with a cement pad for 4-H shooters, 3- a barrier wall between the trap/skeet courses, and 4- the leveling of the continuous surface for the skeet and trap courses.  As part of the grant process the Club will be donating “In-Kind” via equipment (tractors etc) and labor; any members interested in helping with in-kind donations are encouraged to reach out for Carl Otteman.

Also under old business the qualifying for the Rifle Egg Shoot is under way and members are encouraged to get their qualifying done early.  Qualifying will be held on the third Saturday of each month and begins around 1:00 p.m.  Shooters may contact Mike Day or Kelly Clodfelter (384-9015) if they have any questions.

In new business, the Directors discussed a possible NRA grant that may be available.  Details are to come but it is expected that the deadline for the proposals will be August 1st.  The Club would be interested in applying for the grant with the proposed possible use of the funds being to purchase a new, ADA compliant, electronic door for the clubhouse and/or a target retrieval system for the in-door pistol range.

Board meetings are being held monthly on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m and members are always welcome.  Meetings are being held at Kelly’s Guns or the Rifle Club clubhouse; contact a Director if you would like more details.
