General Range Safety

(These rules posted at the entrance to the rifle club.)

You are responsible for knowing and abiding by all range safety rules! 

RED RANGE FLAG INDICATES LIVE FIRE

  1. Safety depends on you. Think before you point, load or fire.  Handle and aim firearms only when at the shooting line, or vehicle.  Load only when under a live fire command at the firing line.  Keep actions open and do not handle firearms    during cease fire.
  2. Report all vandalism and unsafe activities to a safety officer.
  3. Before firing on any range, be sure there are no people or animals in the line of fire or impact area.
  4. No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the La Junta Rifle Club property.  T

  5. The use of hearing and eye protection is required.
  6. The indoor 50 ft. range is only for .22 rim fire and pistol cartridge weapons with a muzzle velocity of less than 1600 fps.  Paper targets only.
  7. Use only metallic silhouette and paper targets with a backstop on the rifle range.  Avoid ricochets.

  8. Shotgun ranges are used only when the (lower area) rifle/pistol ranges are clear of people, animals and vehicles.

  9. Action/IPSC pistol ranges are used only with target scenarios placed inside soil impact berms and multiple stages controlled by a safety officer.

  10. Competition shooting requires one non-contestant to be designated as safety officer to give clear, concise commands and control the range.
